Why Craftsmanship?

I want to deepen my understanding and connection to the past and how things used to be, and traditional crafts (along with their techniques) are my current focus. I’m also looking at places where nature and craft are intrinsically linked.

I’m exploring:

-My own connection to craft and creating things with my hands.

-How these traditional techniques have not yet been lost.

-My wish to become as resilient as those who foster and keep these traditional crafts alive.

-Getting to know these people whose everyday lives revolve around their craft and maintaining a workshop.

I have so many questions:

Why do they do what they do? What’s their motivation? How did they get started? What does a typical day in their lives look like? How does their craft work? What’s their connection to nature? Where do they get their materials? Locally? Online? Harvested by hand? How involved are they with each stage of their craft, from their equipment, their materials, their product, to distribution, sales, etc.

And from all of this, designs for this ‘Craftsmanship Prints’ series will be born.

Snapshots of artists’ hands at work, the equipment and tools they use, handling their materials, moving around and interacting with their workspaces etc.
