YouTube Newbie

So, one of the projects I’ve been working on is setting up a YouTube channel.

I’m not trying to do anything fancy, instead I plan to use it as a platform for sharing my art process. Although I have been documenting my mokuhanga studies and my print sessions here by writing blogs, I think a visual log would also help —help both me and anyone else who has taken an interest in this journey or just the art of mokuhanga.

So far, it’s been a steep learning curve. Or rather, a constant lesson in trouble shooting.

Photoshop has helped me become familiar with editing software, but video editing is a whole other ballgame. My PC can handle Photoshop, but not DaVinci Resolve. The program keeps crashing, so I try to do things one at a time —and constantly hit ctrl + s. But it hasn’t crushed my spirit yet!

One minute I’m researching how to add fun transitions to my video, and then the next I’m trying to figure out why I can only hear audio from one ear. I’m learning a lot. It’s equal parts enjoyable and frustrating.

But now, after weeks (that’s right weeks. I told you I didn’t know what I was doing lol) I have finally managed to cobble together a video and upload it onto YouTube!

Is it perfect? No.

Did I shoot this on my phone and that’s why the video quality is low? Yes.

Did my subtitles fail and then I had to do a cringy voice over instead? Yes.

Am I already thinking of what to do for my next video? You betcha!

Wish me luck!
